Hi everyone,

One of my user came yesterday with a strange error popup from his outlook add-in efficy integration.

Whenever he's trying to use the add-in, outlook crashes because it couldn't connect to efficy server. then popup appears telling "couldn't load midas.dll"

Also outlook asking if I want to import dll missing from the server, which not working

i access efficy through the sidebar - and everything's ok from the web

what I already tried :
- reinstall efficy sidebar
- midas.dll is well stored in syswow64/system32
- registrer midas.dll
- update outlook

I have 30 users working with this efficy integration, and I haven't configure anything different on his computer.

They all use one shared component, that's the Efficy Application Server (COM+) which manages the database connections. Network issues between this component and the database server can lead to queues and instability of this component and it's consumers.

If it's irregular - as you said - log files analysis will be required in order to provide assistance.

Your best next move is to make a support ticket with as much information as possible:

A solution has been found doing this.

delete midas.dll in the system32 folder and in the syswow64 folder
reinstall efficy
reboot

/!\ midas.dll must be deleted because just unreg it doesn't make change in my case

I see that the documentation of currentUserContactId can me misinterpreted.

Retrieves the contact ID of the current user. This value only makes sense for contact users, for others the value is 0.

This method only functions in the context of an extranet (e.g. helpdesk), where a session is made using a Contact License and a "contact user".

If you need it from a normal User session, you have to use getContactKeyForUser

I would not run any service with elevated permissions (as Administrator), certainly not a PDF convertor. If there would be a virus in the Word document, it could potentially harm your server when it's opened.

For the PDF conversion to work, two users or groups needs to have permissions on the IN and OUT folders:

The identity used for the IIS Application Pool, by default these users are member of the IIS_IUSRS group. Give it full permissions, because it needs to write files in the IN folder but also to delete PDF's from the OUT folder.
The identity hosting the PDF Conversion Windows Service (e.g. .\EfficyApp), also with full control

I also recommend to check what happens in the service itself, is there any error in the log file for instance?

Also checkout this post about access denied errors, and include also these steps

Don't make the dedicated .\EfficyApp account member of Administrators
If the installed office is 32-bit, use mmc comexp.msc /32 to start up the DCOM configuration.

These additional steps converted my "conversion failed" error into successful PDF generation with the Windows Service (not interactive)

browse to Component services > Computers > My Computer > DComConfig.
Search for "Microsoft Word 97 - 2003 Document" and open the properties.
In the security tab, for "Launch and Activation Permissions" select customize and then Edit. Add your user and set the permission to "Local Launch" and "Local activation"

In the Identidy tab, select "this user" and specify the login & password of your user.

Solution Efficy 11.2:

Insert a hostname in each "Url white list" of each customer profile.
Empty hostnames cannot be used in combination with defined hostnames.

Tip, on your local machine, you can define new hosts in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

The solution can be to create a log file of the installation to have more detail about which component is triggering the error.
This is achieved by executing the MSI from the command line with a couple additional parameters.
Here is an example :

In this error message, you see that we find a registry key path

There's nowhere you can specify Servicy password, because it's using the password you stored in the sidebar.

To have a more comprehensive log about Servicy, ad the following entry in Regedit :

This is because Servicy actually generates a POST url from the sidebar to push the file. The generated URL uses the classic &logon=xxx&password=yyy&key=zzz efficy URL scheme.

And here's our problem!
If there's an & in our password (and certainly in our logon as well), Efficy gets confused and can't properly send the password in the URL.
Basically if your password is "pass&word", Efficy will understand the following :

&logon=usercode&password=pass&word&key=123

This will give us the following parameters in the URL:
Logon : usercode
Password : pass
word: empty
Key :123

As you can see, the password is incorrect, resulting in the initial error.

Changing the password to something without the '&' instantly solved the issue !

If you want the exact reason, it's best to create a case so that the L2 can analyse it. I suppose there is an issue in the Efficy appointment fields that the synchro tries to transfer from Efficy to Exchange (a field not initialised as it should, a wrong dbegin/dend,...)

For the last error, it seems to be an Efficy right issue yes. You should check what's in conficy (or the security of the task itself if it's an update of an existing one)

The header should be removed, this creates invalid XML.

When you have invalid XML, Efficy redirects to the error page defined in admin/Error.htm. Sadly, this is the same error page as for the end user, so you get HTML back instead of XML

If you create an isolated website for SOAP requests on a new inetpub folder containing Efficy.dll and the admin/ folder, you could change the admin/Error.htm to contain an XML structure.

FYI, I prefer using Postman compared to SOAP-UI, mainly because it offers less functionality, making the overview better. Secondly, I don't like Java based applications ;-)

This behavior can be changed in recent version of the Efficy Outlook add-in. In the add-in options dialog, tab Efficy go to the Advanced Settings section.

Check "Save in Efficy while sending Email", else Efficy waits until a new mail arrives in the Sent Items folder of the standard mailbox. This explains why Send and Save doesn't work if you have multiple mailboxes. You can still save the mail after it has been sent of course, but it requires one extra step.

Hello,

It's related to field "Database Owner" in record for mother database in Alias Manager.

After removing value "Admin" from this field, the creation was successfully finished.

So obviously after the creation of DB, Efficy tries to query license on child database, so the used schema should be "childDB", but because there's a value in this field then for some reason it tries to use the schema of the owner (which is admin) to query on child database, so it fails.

I usually never set this value, maybe it's used for security reasons. But in my case it's not needed, and it blocks the creation of child DB.

I faced same issue on one another client, and they have webfilters or some kind of firewall.

We tried to access the internet from Efficy server and call the URL of google API and it was blocked by the F.W. (we got some block message on the web browser directly)

We asked the client to bypass a certain user on efficy server (i'm supposing it's the same one that we configure to run the COM+) to see if it will work. I'm assuming it should work, but not tested yet.

Maybe you can do same check on your side and see.

The regional settings of Efficy are likely not the same as the regional settings of the Efficy Com+ user (Windows user). Make sure that they are the same. The short date format and the date separator in the Windows regional settings must be the same as Efficy, you can check this in the Efficy Admin console. Sign in to Windows with the Efficy Com+ user and change the regionals settings of this user in to the correct settings. After correcting the Windows regional settings you must restart the Efficy Com+.

Now to solve this:

Go to: C:\Users\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\ and rename it to INetCache_old.

Then do the same to the default user, else windows will take this one and will not have any access to it either.

Go to: C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache and rename it to INetCache_old.
To the same for INetCookies.

Now reboot the computer => Congratz, your problem should be solved !

This error message is more common when you just migrated from Efficy 2014 to Efficy 10 with the Chronos timeline.

The solution is to simply clear the cache of your browser.

Big thanks to Kevin that found the solution, it concerned Outlook 2013 - 2016:

the error is not linked to Efficy, it's a common issue when uninstalling / reinstalling different versions of Office/Outlook.

Uninstalling does not remove everything, so I had to make two things :

1) Deleting or renaming mapi32.dll as explained here :

2) Deleting some registry entries left by 2016, explained here :

After doing that, I was able to get everything to work back on 2013.

Hey Pierre,

Remote files (Kind=4) is gathering the file on the disk and somehow pushing it in the dataset.

Therefore, it may requires read/write to that context (which would means that it is not compatible with "read only" documents) .

You should try a very basic workflow locally (with only the function RequestRemoteFile) and see if you still have this issue with a "read-only" document. If you do, then remote files require read/write access to the document.

Hello,

The main issue was produced mainly on "Project" entity. and in projects there are few custom lookup fields. an because these fields were not associated with lookup, then when efficy try to create a view for full google search won't find the keys of lookup to search in, so that's why empty quotes ("" is the reason of "illegal zero-length identifier") were created in the view.

so the solution is simple, just associate fields with lookup tables and it works.
