Game-changing discovery: You can add Nitro signature tags directly to PDF files without converting from Word!

The Challenge

One of our clients, recently shared their frustration with our standard process:

They were told they needed to create documents in Word
Add Nitro tags like in Word
Convert to PDF
Only then send for signatures through our module

This workflow was particularly cumbersome for their team who primarily works with PDF files.

The Solution We Discovered
During a client call, we tested a simple but effective workaround:

Open the PDF directly in Adobe Acrobat Reader
Add a text element containing the Nitro tag (e.g., )
Change the text color to match the background (making it invisible)
Save the file
Upload to Enterprise document and create a signature request

The Result

✅ Success! Nitro correctly identified the hidden tags and replaced them with signatures

✅ The client received properly signed documents

✅ No Word-to-PDF conversion needed!

The R&D confirmed that the MEMO has a special use in Reports entity.
It can be used to send parameter to a report.

So please don't use formatted memo in reports entity.

From a discussion with R&D it looks like it's not possible to use the Efficy.disableSecurity or/and Efficy.disableCategorySecurity on editHandle that has been already opened.

The Efficy.disableSecurity and Efficy.disableCategorySecurity should be called before openEditContext.

So to resume it doesn't work in workflow with the given (opened) editHandle.

Dear Erwin,

I tried it with Efficy 12.0 (2021), and it is possible to create a new Dashboard and to select "Action" in the Master field. On which Efficy version have you tried to create your new dashboard ?

It is nicer to regroup all widget in a specific dashboard, but svu is right you need to secure the widget in order to make it not possible for users that don't have the rights/securities to add those widgets to their dashboards + you also need to secure the queries used by those widgets for the same reasons.

And if you want to force the Dashboard to be display each time a user click on the menu "Task" then you will need to override the function "ShowTaskList" that is in efficy/scripts/desktop.js. To override it you just need to copy past it in the Custom.js file in your custom folder.

Then you will need to add a new parameter "&detail=Dash" to the url something like this

In the most recent Efficy 11 builds SYS_CALENDAR will be automatically updated by the database upgrade.

You don't have to rewrite all your HighCharts, you need to reactivate the HighCharts.
For that you need :

In a MacroLibraryCustom.txt, create the following macro :

In a MacroDesktopCustom.txt, you need to add the following macro :

You also need to customize the standard Efficy 11.3 page : pages/dialog/DashView.htm

and in the header of the page add the following code :

Then you need, as Anthony said to create a new widget with the following configuration, here you may also change the security and users link to the widget if you need the widget to be accessible to only certain users and to add the correct Title that you can also translate :

In the Widget URL add the name of the Old HighChart Widget Macro :

In the OLD Widget Macro Name, you will probably need to review the in order to have a Style to increase to 100% the width of the Div to make it fit the whole Widget box, something like this

Finally, you need to add the Widget in the Correct Dashboard

PS: Be sure that the OLD Widget Macro Name is in the MacroWidgetCustom.txt file and not the MacroTodayCustom.txt (use in prior version of Efficy 2014).

PS2 : You have to be aware that with this legacy Widgets, you will not be able to use the new filter feature of the new Widgets Chart and KPI.

Nearly all these values have hardcoded behavior bounded to them. If you add a custom value, e.g. "Microsoft BI", you will have to customize the Run Report behavior as well.

Hello Tim,

Qlik secured at lot the possibilities to pass arguments with the URL.
It allows us to add the arguments available in the Single Configurator [qlikServerUrl]/dev-hub/single-configurator:

Language
Several interface settings (disable interaction, disable animation, showing selection bar, ...)
The selection to apply (filters), using Field name and values
As well as:
Selecting a bookmark (via its id)
Selecting a sheet (via its id)

In Efficy, the report entity allows you to pass arguments to the URL used to contact the Qlik Server.
This URL can contain arguments, thanks to the report's memo.
For instance, to select/filter two entities (Action & Appointment) and a group (Development Team) (based on corresponding field of a QS report), add this in the memo:

select=Entity,Action,Appointment
select=Group,Development Team

Syntax: &Select=<Field>,<Value>

As regards other parameters in the URL, as far as I know it's not possible (yet?).

However we can manage securities in the Qlik Management Console to allow an authenticated user to see or not graphics, sheets and so on. So maybe this could be a way to show/hide things depending on the current user (the one who asked a token and is authenticated).

In the same way, data can be reduced by authenticated user as explained here http://help.qlik.com/en-US/sense/3.2/Subsystems/Hub/Content/Scripting/Security/manage-security-with-section-access.htm
But this isn't implemented in the standard Efficy and we haven't tested this mechanism.

Hi,

this is how I did configure my example report to make it work :

as you can see the URL argument is not set as in 2012.(exit the ../custom/ it's implied by the new customs architecture) for the rest of the configuration it's working the same way.

of course my HTML page is in : C:\inetpub\wwwroot\customs\Test\pages\reports

Not sure if you still looking for an answer given the fact it is a bit of an old question but anyway.

It seems that the Oracle function LISTAGG could do the trick.

Please be aware this function is only available as of version 11.2. For older versions (9i +), you can achieve the same with the builtin column ROWNUM() and function SYSCONNECTBY_PATH.

Yes, but very difficult. You need to parse the Efficy.dll log files in order to retrieve the requests that called the specific report you are looking for. And then you know the session ID. Second step is to search who created the session.

Conclusion, this is too complicated. Easier is to make a serverscript that logs in a (custom) table or file who access your report.

Enabling compatibility view in IE for Efficy 2014 is not a good idea. It's not intended, and not supported.

I suggest you run the Crystal Reports on another domain (or alias), one that is different from the Efficy website.

PS. You might encounter issues if the iframe is cross domain or http mixed in https.

The issue is that Crystal keep in "Memory" the database name and the ODBC connexion name. If you move a database somewhere else without the same name then you can have this error.

The solution:
Change the database name and change also the Alias of Efficy to correspond the source database.
