Saving documents as linked documents and not as blobs in the database

Dear,

In the new version (2014 - build 6640), when saving a document as a linked document and not as a blob in the Efficy database, how is the opening and saving working?

In the past when clicking on the attachment, the file was downloaded and saved locally in a temp-folder. If the document was then modified, it was first saved locally.
Now when modifying the document, the current user needs to have r/w access to the shared path. The document isn't downloaded anymore and saved into a local path.

For my client, the shared path on the server is a read-only folder. In the past this wasn't a problem. Now I have the impression that the Efficy user is modifying the file directly on the server and not on a temporary folder locally.

Can you confirm me if this is correct and intended?

gr
